Hello. I am 28 years old and am a single mother of a 10 year old and a 6 year old. When my daughter, who is 6, and her father split up after 7 years we both gained joint custody of our daughter. This was in july of 2007. In october of that year my family and I found out that my father had brain cancer. He was forced to stop working and there for I had to come in and help to take care of him and my mom because she is disabled and unable to work at all. My parents lived in a tiny 2 bedroom apartment and there was simply not enough room for them two and me and my 2 kids. I asked my ex and his mother to help out with her for a little while and needless to say they took advantage of the situation and took me for the fool i was at the time and talked me into signing papers that was suppose to say this was temporary till i got back on my feet and i would get her right back. This was suppose to be only for insurance reasons that I signed these papers. But instead I was signing my daughter over to them without my knowledge. I spoke with a local attorny and he informed me that unfortunanly these things happen more than any one knows and that it is legal. But he also informed me that I could get her back since i was not in the right state of mind, beings how my father was dying at the time and all. he also said there would be a large fee. I don't have it, and neither does my mom who just lost her husband, my dad!. He did not have life insurance when he passed so it took all they had just to bury him. I honestly need help. My daughter is here for 4 days because of spring break and she has told me lots of things that are happening at her father's house that upsets me and I do not agree with. If anyone can help with some suggestions they would be greatly appreciated..
